PART-TIME COOK Saturdays and Sundays

Our brand new facility, Hurd Street Supportive Housing, is almost ready to move in. We need 2 Cooks for the weekends. The shifts are 10 am – 6pm Or 11 am – 7 pm

A Cook will prepare, package, and deliver meals using food safe measures. Assist with the daily operation of the kitchen facilities and maintain a clean and safe environment.

What you’ll do

  • Follow lunch and dinner menu plan in accordance with accepted nutritional guidelines such as Canada’s Food Guide for Healthy Eating and the individual dietary needs of the clients.
  • Prepare and cook meals and snacks, including those for special dietary needs and special occasions, in accordance with safety and health standards and the menu plan.
  • Assist with the operation of the cooking facilities and equipment and ensure their cleanliness and maintenance.
  • Clean kitchen equipment after use according to health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Label, date, store and rotate food and beverage products in appropriate storage areas.
  • Communicate effectively with all appropriate operational departments.
  • Report needed maintenance, faulty equipment, or accidents to the Program Coordinator.
  • Ensure proper food handling, presentation, portion control and maintenance of appropriate serving temperatures.
  • Maintain sanitation of equipment, supplies, and utensils. Clean workstation thoroughly prior to leaving area. Keep display equipment clean and free of debris during meal service to comply with all sanitation and safety requirements.

What you bring

  • Grade 12, plus graduation from a program in institutional or residential quantity cooking, plus one-year related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Successful completion of a criminal record check
  • Food Safe certified
  • Certification in First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or MANDT
  • Valid B.C. Driver’s License
  • Ability to understand and maintain clientele/worker boundaries
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office software

This position is open to all qualified applicants and union membership (BCGEU) is required. Starting pay is $25.55 per hour (Grid 9)
