Mission Community Services

The Opportunity:
Mission Community Services is seeking new Board Members who are passionate about our mission and values to join our Volunteer Board.

The Organization:
Mission Community Services Society is a team of professional staff led by a Board of Directors dedicated to supporting our clients to achieve or maintain their sense of independence. We build inclusive and healthy partnerships and support and empower people to be contributing members of our community.

Since its inception in 1972, MCSS has maintained a focus on helping fellow community members who need assistance to cope with the realities of life. What started out as neighbours helping neighbours all those years ago has evolved into an organization that operates 28 different programs. And while the programs may have changed, the focus remains on our Mission of Helping People, Changing Lives, and Building Community and our Vision of Bringing hope to all who come through our doors.

The Role:
Working in collaboration with the Executive Director, MCSS Board members direct and lead in Strategic Planning and ensure sound governance oversight. The board provides mission-based leadership and strategic insight, while day-to-day operations are led by the Executive Director.

The Board – Management relationship is a partnership, and the committed engagement of the Board is both critical and expected. Regular Board meetings are currently held approximately 1 to 1.5hrs once per month, 9 months of the year. Directors are appointed on a three-year term and are elected at our Annual General Meeting to be held in June.

Interested in joining the MCSS Board? Ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you have an understanding of our community and its needs, the importance of community services?
  • Are you willing and able to commit time for at least six Board meetings/year plus committee meetings, planning sessions, and special events?
  • Can you add value to the board with your background in finance, legal, property and asset management, government relations, health and/or social services?

If you feel inspired to help and believe you could be a contributing member of the MCSS Board, please complete the application and send it along with a current resume to MCSS Nominations Committee to [email protected]

We welcome applications from Indigenous persons, people of colour, persons with disabilities, persons of minority sexual orientations and gender identities, and others with the skills and knowledge to productively engage with diverse communities.
