Since its inception in 1972, Mission Community Services has maintained a focus on helping fellow community members who need assistance to cope with the realities of life. What started out as neighbours helping neighbours over 50 years ago has evolved into an organization that operates dozens of programs applicable to virtually all populations in the community.
We have an opening for a full-time Program Coordinator – Harm Reduction on a temporary basis for approximately 18 months. Reporting to the Manager, Community Outreach, the Program Coordinator – Harm Reduction is responsible for planning and implementing the day-to-day activities of the Harm Reduction Program.
What you’ll do
· Participate in program development, policies and procedure formulation, program evaluation and budget preparation.
· Supervise Peer Support members and volunteers, including scheduling and evaluation, and participates in community engagement in collaboration with the Manager.
· Engage with people in community with lived experience of substance use in service planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
· Develop and facilitate education about the Harm Reduction Program and the Needle Distribution Program to support harm reduction practice through the society.
· Assess clients’ need for other services and provide them with information on helping organizations and professionals such as community service agencies, addictions counsellors, physicians and mental health services. Recommend appropriate services to clients.
· Provide Harm Reduction services to the community of Mission which includes but is not limited to safe sharps disposal, take home Naloxone training and distribution, education on safer use, and overdose protection.
What you bring
· Diploma in a related human / social service field plus two (2) years recent related experience. Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
· Successful completion of a criminal record check is required.
· Certification in First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
· Valid B.C. Driver’s License and a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance
· Ability to understand and maintain clientele/worker boundaries.
· Experience using Microsoft Office products.
