How to Support Literacy Development with Young Children

March 13, 2021 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

Emphasizing playful ideas and rich experiential events towards developing a strong foundation of literacy skills, this session will discuss authentic ways to engage and support essential skills in phonemics and phonological awareness. Discussion includes conversations in reading to support comprehensive skill development, and how we might grow a child’s strength as a reader, by embracing their identity as a writer. Additional consideration will be given to the importance of a growth mindset in reading, and the pivotal roles that music, song and storytelling can play.

This session will also include a segment addressing the current reality of remote/ distanced educators working to maintain both connection and support to the families of children they care for. Karen will share ideas and tips for video and written communication with families during this time of physical distancing.
