(Part 3/3) Class Room Design: Community of Practice & Setting Up ECE Environments for Success

Join us for this 3-part series on how the layout of our rooms can affect the children’s behavior, how they engage with the room and play, and how the room can affect their emotions. Join for one or all 3 parts. 

Part 1 of 3 Part Series – February 8th Online Workshop with Julie Hansen (Cost – $15 – Part 2 & Part 3 sessions are included in this registration fee)

Inspiration comes in many forms. Discover how to offer opportunities for children and families to explore your learning environment. How can we as educators bring nature into our spaces, include recyclable materials in our room set up, create everything from quiet areas that support emotional development to messy sensory fun. Have you ever tried putting together a construction zone for large motor play? We will also discuss evaluating your program and potential changes that could be made to layouts as well as recognizing the important role documentation plays in ECE programs. 

About the facilitator: Julie Hansen

Julie have been an Early Childhood Educator for 20 years, having received her Diploma in Early Childhood Education from Douglas College. Since then, she has gained experience in a variety of areas within the field of Early Childhood Education: Director of a preschool, supervisor of after-school care as well as 3-5 and Infant Toddler programs and centre management. Julie’s primary focus has evolved to encompass team leadership, management training and program development. She has had articles published in provincial and national ECE journals on the topic of emergent curriculum and leadership. Julie’s goal as an Early Childhood Educator and facilitator is to support fellow educators and early years professionals in providing high-quality early learning experiences for children and families. 

Part 2 of 3 Part Series – Self-Paced Online Section – Can be completed anytime from February 9th to 28th. (Cost – $5)

A self-paced online section that will introduce us to the journey of thinking, evaluating, and acting intentionally when designing or re-designing spaces where children play and learn. During  this self-paced workshop we will look at different classroom design ideas, common problems with layouts and how to layout play inquires for children to engage with. 

Part 3 of 3 Part Series – Community of Practice Online Session – February 24th (Cost – $5)

A Community Practice session where we can discuss what we have learned, share pictures of our classrooms and what works. Do you have an area that rarely gets played in? Looking for ideas to inspire the children to engage with it more? Maybe you have a class that doesn’t work for you and would like some inspiration and ideas on a different approach. Join us in this collaboration of ECE’s so we can put our brains together to help each other learn and resolve our classroom design issues together. Come with your classroom layout concerns and ideas and as a team of educators we can work as a team to resolve our common issues. 

Registration Information for Part 3:

Location: Online Workshop

Requirements/Policies:

  1. It is the participants’ responsibility to read the workshop/course description and make sure the training selected is suitable for their learning needs.
  2. Participants must be 19 years of age at the time of registration.
  3. The equivalent of Grade 8 high-school English understanding, written and oral skills are necessary to actively participate in class.
  4. Participants must stay for the full workshop/course & actively participate to receive a certificate.
  5. Doors close 15 minutes after start time in respect to facilitator and participants.
  6. We are unable to accommodate children during workshop/course time. Please make childcare arrangements.
  7. Payment must be made at the time of registration to confirm a seat. Registration is online only.
  8. Receipts and handouts are always sent by email.
  9. There is a $15 charge to reprint a certificate or receipt for up to 1 year from the workshop/course date.
  10. Everyone in the class must abide by the Classroom Code of Conduct.
  11. These are non-credit workshops/courses, meaning they cannot be applied towards the completion of a university or college certificate, diploma or degree.

  13. While facilitators strive to cover each workshop’s content as outlined in the description as closely as possible, it is important to point out that each educator is on an individual and unique learning pathway.
