Save this date: Wednesday, Jan. 20!

That’s when Mission Community Services Society Settlement and Integration department is hosting a public Refugee Readiness Forum at the Clarke Theatre, starting at 6 p.m.

“It will be an opportunity to do some refugee myth-busting, to share information about what is in store for Mission, and to listen to qualified refugee speakers, and to hear how the public can help,” said Rick Rake, MCSS manager of Settlement and Seniors Programs.

It will also provide a forum for public feedback on the Syrian refugee situation and Mission’s potential role in resettlement.

Currently, a Congolese family of 14, half privately sponsored by Mission faith groups and half sponsored by the federal government, will be arriving in Mission in the next six weeks or so.  A team of dedicated stakeholders has formed to help provide accommodations, furniture, clothing and related settlement and educational services for the newcomers.

Those who can speak Swahili and French are being asked to engage in the local settlement process.

The Jan. 20 forum will be professionally facilitated by David Gouthro of  www.theconsultingedge.com (pictured far left in photo below with MCSS New-to-Canada crew. Check out Gouthro’s promotional video for the Mission Refugee Readiness Forum HERE.
