Women’s Day: How struggle gives strength

Mission International Women’s Day 2020 was a partnership between Mission Community Services, Mission Library and WorkBC.

Keynote speaker Mission Mayor Pam Alexis addressed the crowd at Mission Library, saying it was her struggles as a woman that gave her strength every day.  Video of her talk, by Abdullah al Dgheim, is HERE.

A light lunch was provided and local woman entrepreneurs also offered their insight into Women’s Day.  Inspire Me Fitness provided a fitness activity and Mission Friendship Centre and Serenata Singers entertained.

Focus of the day (March 7) was on the variety of achievements and struggles women in our community go through.  It was emphasized it is up to all of us to move closer to gender parity in our society.

International Women’s Day, March 8 is a day marked globally to celebrate social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women while also marking a call to action or accelerating gender equality.
