New health room at Haven

Thanks to a BC Housing grant, a shiny, new 250-square foot health room exists on the second floor of The Haven first stage housing facility at 32646 Logan Ave. in Mission.
Haven program manager Ed Cassia said all the ailments of the homeless can be treated in the special room which features a medical examination bed, electronic medical equipment, storage, pharmaceutical refrigerator, shower and stainless steel sink.
“It is equipped so we can do flu clinics and give vaccinations,” said Cassia.
The room will be staffed by the Fraser Health Authority, including Dr. Barnsdale and nurses when the need arises. It will be open to homeless outreach and Haven clients.
Cassia said a medical schedule is in the works and the room will be available to other health professionals expressing an interest.
He added that blood samples can be taken on site, testings can occur, medical exams can be conducted and wounds can be treated.
The Haven is one of the many sites and programs under the umbrella of Mission Community Services Society.
